Club Goals
The Clarksville Amateur Radio Club (CARC) has three main goals:
-
To facilitate experimentation into various facets of Amateur Radio communications. This includes everything from refurbishing tube-type equipment, to digital satellite communication, to emergency and disaster communication operations. This goal usually requires a group effort, in terms of technical expertise, equipment, and labor (antenna installation, etc).
- To maintain the club’s KB3OKL two-meter repeater. The repeater is located in Clarksville and has good coverage from Baltimore to Burtonsesville and other points within that radius. The repeater acts as a focal point to keep us thinking, communicating, and using the spectrum. A free long-distance autopatch is available. Please use it! Again, we need the bands to remain active.
There is also a 160-80-40-20 meter SSB HF remote monitor that is interconnected. Bring it up and listen to the HF nets and QSOs as often as you like (but the frequency may not be active at the time). Keep it on no longer than 20 minutes, as it is a continuous transmission. Again we are trying to keep the bands active, so please’ don’t be shy about using the repeater. See the repeater links for complete technical and user information, including DTMF codes, for the various repeater functions.
-
To foster the introduction of Amateur Radio activities and philosophy to new and prospective hams. We do this through active demonstration of the various aspects of the hobby, the lending of equipment, help with antenna installation, and technical advice. We also accept equipment donations for this purpose.
This is a vital mission as we are in danger of loosing our frequency spectrum due to decreasing activity. As the code barrier has now been removed from license requirements, the new hams need our guidance.
If you feel motivated by the principles listed herein, please consider joining the club. There aren’t any fees, we just ask for your time and knowledge in pursuing this great hobby.
To join, simply send an email to: clarksville.amatuer.radio.club@gmail.com with your name, callsign (if currently a ham), and contact information.
